Set passing scores and retry attempts

Passing percentage is part of the Mastery course learning flow. Open and Guided courses do not show the mastery passing-score control.

Retry controls are configured separately and apply to generated question sets. Certificate eligibility has its own pass-score setting under Certification.

  1. Open Learning settings

    Open the course, select Course Settings, and choose Learning.

  2. Choose Mastery course

    Under Learning flow, select Mastery course. The Passing percentage control appears below the learning-flow options.

  3. Set the passing percentage

    Enter or slide to a value from 0% to 100%. Learners must meet this score to pass each mastery quiz.

  4. Configure retries

    Under Question policies, turn Allow retry on or off and set Max retry attempts. A value of 0 means unlimited retries; the number otherwise counts retries after the first attempt.

  5. Choose the retry scope and save

    Turn Retry failed questions only on when learners should retry missed questions instead of the full set, then select Save.

Certificate score is separate

If the course issues certificates based on quiz performance, also open Course Settings > Certification, choose Complete units and pass quiz, and set Pass score there.

Changing the mastery percentage does not automatically change the certificate pass score.
