Progress not saving

Server-saved progress requires a signed-in learner with an enrollment that can write. Author Preview is separate and does not update learner or account records.

When a learner write fails, the mobile reader toolbar can show Not saved. Select it to retry the last failed action; its accessible label is Progress not saved. Retry.

  1. Confirm learner access

Open the course from Personal Learning or My Learning, not the author Preview page, and make sure the enrollment is Active.

  2. Keep the course open

Restore a stable connection and wait for Saving… to change to Saved after completing a lesson or question action.

  3. Retry the failed write

If Not saved appears, select it to retry the last failed progress action.

  4. Reload and verify

Refresh the course, reopen the unit, and check the completion badge, course percentage, or Personal Learning dashboard.

  5. Meet completion requirements

Answer all required questions and meet guided or mastery rules before expecting the next unit to unlock.

  6. Report a persistent sync error

Include the course ID, unit or question, account email, time, device and browser, screenshot, and whether Not saved returned after Retry.

What Retry does

The UI retries only the last failed write. An optimistic unit-completion update is rolled back when its save fails.

Preview and time-tracking limits

Preview progress is stored temporarily in browser session storage. Reading-time heartbeats run while the tab is visible, and failed heartbeats are silent, so time metrics can lag.
