Learner cannot access course

Learners can open a course only when it is Published and their access matches the course: public enrollment, active or completed assignment, or a current private invitation.

Draft courses remain manager-only. Approval courses remain Pending Approval until an Owner or Admin reviews the request in Learners & Access.

  1. Confirm publication

Admin: open course Settings > Publishing, set Lifecycle status to Published, verify Public or Invite only, and save.

  2. Confirm the learner record

Open Learners & Access > Learners and verify the exact email and an Active status rather than Invited or Suspended.

  3. Confirm the assignment

Open the learner and check that the course or learning path is assigned. Use Assign learning if it is missing.

  4. Resolve pending approval

Open Learners & Access > Access requests and approve the matching course request when appropriate.

  5. Use the newest invitation

Learner: sign in with the intended account, open the newest link, and choose Accept Invite & Start Learning. For a public course choose Enroll and Start Learning.

  6. Replace an unusable link

Create or resend access when the old link is expired, revoked, superseded, at its use limit, or has an invalid token.

Expected result

The learner has Active or Completed access and the course opens. Pending requests remain on the auto-updating approval page until reviewed.

Other access gates

Archived courses reject new enrollment but can preserve prior access. Guided or mastery learning rules can lock later units even when course access is valid.
