1. Source policy excerpt
Fictional demonstration policy · version 1.0
Evergreen Companion Care — fictional demonstration policy. Caregivers must not accept cash or personal gifts from clients or their families. Politely decline, explain the agency rule, and report the offer to your supervisor. If you are unsure how to respond, contact your supervisor before accepting anything.
2. What this means during a visit
A gift can be well intended and still cross an agency boundary. Thank the person, explain that the agency does not allow you to accept gifts, and let your supervisor know. Apply the same rule even when a family member says the gift is small or insists that you keep it.
“Thank you for thinking of me. Our agency’s policy does not allow me to accept gifts.” Then report the offer to your supervisor.
3. Try a scenario
At the end of a visit, a client’s daughter offers you a gift card as a thank-you. What should you do under this fictional policy?
